The Identity Ecosystem Steering Group Appoints New Executive Director

Leading Identity, Privacy and Security Expert to Spearhead Activities to Safeguard Identities Online and Build the Identity Ecosystem Framework

WASHINGTON, D.C. - February 10, 2015 - The Identity Ecosystem Steering Group (IDESG) today announced the appointment of Marc-Anthony Signorino to serve as the organization's executive director. Signorino, an attorney specializing in identity, privacy and security topics, will oversee the progress and general management of IDESG's all-volunteer membership as the organization architects the Identity Ecosystem Framework (IEF). Signorino's appointment was the result of a unanimous decision of the IDESG's board of directors.

"By developing the Identity Ecosystem Framework, IDESG is helping to shape the future of identity and trust in online transactions," said IDESG President, Peter F. Brown. "Marc-Anthony brings a wealth of experience in identity, privacy and security to IDESG. We look forward to his support for members as we work towards meeting our first critical milestone in June 2015, the first complete draft of the IEF."

IDESG was created as a public-private partnership under the National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace (NSTIC) to create the IEF. "I am thrilled to welcome Marc-Anthony as Executive Director of the Identity Ecosystem Steering Group," said Jeremy Grant, senior executive advisor, NSTIC National Program Office. His record of leadership on cybersecurity and identity issues will help to accelerate the pace of progress in the IDESG, bringing us closer to the realization of the vision articulated in the National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace (NSTIC)." Signorino has a rich history with IDESG. For nearly two and a half years, he served in a voluntary role as the Privacy Committee's Secretary, providing oversight to ensure the IEF will be privacy-enhancing and voluntary. The Privacy Committee is responsible for identifying privacy risks and developing mitigation strategies. "IDESG is the only organization committed to addressing all functional components of the Identity Ecosystem to develop the IEF," said Signorino. "I'm looking forward to working with the Management Council, committees and members to help ensure a safer future for identities online."

Signorino brings strong leadership and a wealth of management and security, privacy and identity technical expertise to the executive director positions. Prior to IDESG, he served as vice president and general counsel at 121 Strategies & Government Relations. Among his leadership posts, Signorino also served as executive director of the Distracted Driver Safety Alliance, as general counsel for the SecureID Coalition and as director for technology policy with the National Association of Manufacturers. He is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP). Signorino received his Juris Doctor from Northeastern University School of Law and a Bachelor of Science from Boston University.

Brown extended the board of directors' heartfelt thanks to Mary Ellen Condon, who has led IDESG as an interim director since April 2014. "We have been fortunate to have someone of Mary Ellen's caliber and professionalism to serve as an interim executive director while we searched for someone to occupy the post permanently," he added.

About the Identity Ecosystem Steering Group (IDESG)

IDESG is a voluntary, public-private partnership dedicated to developing the Identity Ecosystem Framework to enable the creation of an Identity Ecosystem. The National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace (NSTIC), signed by the President in April 2011, states, “A secure cyberspace is critical to our prosperity.” This powerful declaration makes clear that securing cyberspace is absolutely essential to increasing the security and privacy of transactions conducted over the Internet. The Identity Ecosystem envisioned in the NSTIC is an online environment that will enable people to validate their identities securely, but with minimized disclosure of personal information when they are conducting transactions. https://www.idecosystem.org
