IDESG Voters Approve the Membership Agreement and the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Policy for IDESG

On December 17, 2012, Identity Ecosystem Steering Group (IDESG) members approved the Membership Agreement and the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Policy for the IDESG with an overwhelming majority (93%) voting “Yes” to adopt the documents. These documents, along with the Rules of Association (approved on November 11, 2012) now make up the current IDESG policies – available here: https://www.idecosystem.org/page/policies.

February 14, 2013 is the Deadline for Members to Sign New Membership Agreement

The Member Representative of each current IDESG member should already be in receipt of a new Membership Agreement.  We request that each member signs and returns the signed membership agreement by February 14, 2013 at 11:59:59 PST in order to continue as a member in good standing.

Current members’ previous membership status allows them to remain eligible to participate in the upcoming meeting in Phoenix on February 5-7, 2013 and any other interim business of the IDESG; however, current members’ membership status will lapse on February 14, 2013 at 11:59:59 PST, unless they sign and return a new Membership Agreement by midnight PST on February 14, 2013.

We urge you to sign the membership agreement by the February 14th deadline.  If you do so you will be eligible to vote in the elections of at-large officers and Management Council Delegates in March and April. If you have questions, please feel free to contact administrator@idecosystem.org.

Standards Coordination Committee

The Standards Coordination Committee (SCC) has been working since the Chicago meeting to define its role and processes and to move out on a number of work areas it has undertaken.  In particular, we’ve:

  • Developed a draft use case plan, which is currently out for review by the other groups. The intent is for the SCC to be the focal point for collecting a broad set of use cases that are contributed and used by the IDESG as a whole.
  • Begun work on a terminology catalog, defining a larger vocabulary process, and identifying requirements for a vocabulary Wiki.
  • Started a standards inventory and are in the process of defining a draft standards adoption policy and process.
We look forward to working closely with the other IDESG groups, the Management Council, and the Plenary as a whole on these important projects that will support our collective work towards defining and building the Identity Ecosystem and its framework.

International Coordination Committee

The International Coordination Committee (ICC) has completed an initial compilation of international identity efforts to support the work of the IDESG. The ICC will continue to refine and develop the inventory of more than 100 unique initiatives before releasing the document to the larger IDESG prior to the February in-person meeting.

Privacy Committee

The Privacy Committee opened up the call for nominations for the leadership positions during its December 4 meeting. The Committee provided an opportunity for incumbents to express their desire to run for re-election and then opened to floor to nominations for the various roles. Here are the results:

  • Chair – Jim Elste, incumbent, willing to serve, and running unopposed
  • Vice-Chair – Dave Kerns, candidate, nominated by Jim Zok, and running unopposed
  • Secretary – Marc-Anthony Signorino, incumbent, willing to serve, and running unopposed
The call for nominations will remain open until the next Committee meeting in January and any interested individuals should e-mail Jim Elste, the Committee Chair, at elste@cybercqrt.com. Elections will occur during this meeting.

Financial Committee

The Financial Committee (FC) has been chartered to examine the use cases and requirements under which Financial Services could participate within the Identity Ecosystem. The financial services industry can play multiple stakeholder roles of Identity Provider, Attribute Provider and Relying Party.

For the purposes of this group, a financial services organization is one that falls under the broader contextual definition to include non-bank financial companies, which, prior to the Dodd Frank Act were not federally regulated entities.

The group will seek to understand the business, risk, liability, regulatory, and customer acceptance and usability requirements associated with participation in the Identity Ecosystem and make recommendations to the IDESG.

The FC meets weekly, on Tuesdays at 11 AM ET / 8 AM PT and is actively recruiting membership to support this work effort.  More specifically resources representative of the Financial Services Community and the Regulatory community are highly desired.  If you are interested in participating please contact idecosystem@trustedfederal.com.
